Carina Vicente

(Director and Welfare Officer)


Carina is portuguese and started fencing aged 15. She was introduced to fencing through other sport, Modern Pentathlon, where she competed at both national and international level. Carina stopped competing in 2011 to fully dedicate to her coaching career.


After graduating from Sports Science School of Rio Maior (Portugal) in Sports Coaching she has become full time coach. Nowadays Carina is an Advanced British Academy of Fencing épée coach and the Director of Luso Fencing Academy since its inception in 2014.

Carina is a fully qualified Welfare Officer. Concerns about this matter must be addressed to her via the Academy´s contacts.



James Roberts

James started fencing in 1992/3. As a fencer, James represented both his County and Region at both Sabre and Foil. He then took up sabre as his main weapon and under the tutelage of Peter Frohlich, Laszlo Jakab and Harry went onto represent both England and Britain.


He is now a full time coach, teaching at schools and clubs  in the Bucks Berks and Oxon area.


James is a BFA qualified coach, holds Child Protection and First Aid Certification and has an Enhanced DBS.



Antonio Frulio


Antonio started his fencing career in 1995. Under the tutelage of Nerses Yeghiazaryan, Armenian international champion, he won several local and regional medals.


He started to coach in 2012, and from 2015 he became a full - time coach working alongside coach Alberto Bernacchi. He has a Level 2 Coaching Award (foil, épée, sabre) and he is working towards his Level 3. He also has a Master Degree in Social Work..
